What Is the Stamping Process?

2023-04-07
Stamping is a forming processing method that applies external force to plates, strips, pipes, and profiles by presses and molds to cause plastic deformation or separation to obtain workpieces (stampings) of the required shape and size. Stamping and forging belong to plastic processing (or pressure processing) and are collectively called forging. The blanks for stamping are mainly hot-rolled and cold-rolled steel sheets and strips. Among the steel products in the world, 60~70% are plates, most of which are stamped into finished products.
The exhaust system of the car is stamped. Examples include hot end intake/outlet half shells engine exhaust systems and hot end inlet/outlet cone engine exhaust systems.
Stamping process characteristics.
1. Stamping is a processing method with high production efficiency and low material consumption. The stamping process is suitable for the production of large batches of parts and products, which is easy to realize mechanization and automation, and has high production efficiency. The leftover material can also be fully utilized.
2. The operation process is convenient and does not require the operator to have a high level of skill.
3. The stamped parts generally do not need to be machined and have high dimensional accuracy.
4. Stamping parts have good interchangeability. Stamping processing stability is better, the same batch of stamping parts. Can be used interchangeably without affecting assembly and product performance.
5. Since stamping parts are made of sheet metal, its surface quality is better, which provides convenient conditions for subsequent surface treatment processes (such as electroplating and painting).
6. Stamping processing can obtain parts with high strength, high rigidity, and lightweight. G. The cost of stamping parts mass-produced with molds is low.
7. Stamping can produce parts with complex shapes that are difficult to process by other metal processing methods.
